MOEBIUS DRACULA WINS 2012 HORROR AWARD

There are some big smiles at Moebius Models this month, as the 1:8 scale Bela Lugosi Dracula kit won the 2012 Rondo Award. The Moebius win is one of several made in the horror genre, and is for the ‘Best Toy, Model or Collectible.’

MOEBIUS ‘SEAVIEW’ VOYAGE SUB UPDATE

Moebius Models have posted some extra pictures of the latest Seaview submarine kit. When assembled, the kit should measure some 990 mm (39 in) long, and it looks very good indeed. In the words of one pleased modelmaker: “When they say huge they mean it. It is a big sub with some great detail work. I made the mistake thinking after I built it, my son could play with it in the tub, WRONG. I do not know what I was thinking...”

The 2011 iHobby Expo show took place from October 20-23, at the Rosemont Center, near Chicago, Illinois. It's an amazing place to visit, as it showcases a mind-boggling array of model and hobby products. 

CONFEDERATE RAIDER - ANOTHER AURORA KIT RECREATED BY MOEBIUS MODELS

Besides recreating many science-fiction and fantasy models from Aurora’s earlier years - and adding quite a few new ones in a similar style - Moebius has also reproduced many historical figures. One of the most famous, and now highly collectible, was the Confederate Army Cavalry General, otherwise known as the ‘Confederate Raider’.

The kit almost certainly came about because the horse was already in the Aurora catalogue as the mount for the Gold Knight of Nice, first issued in 1957. Consequently the Confederate Raider, issued in 1959, only needed to add the Officer figure. 

1:25 SCALE INTERNATIONAL LONESTAR TRUCK KIT FROM MOEBIUS MODELS

When the first 1:25 scale truck kit came out, the sheer size of it was a great surprise to anyone used to much smaller car kits. This 'first of the many' was produced by AMT in the mid-1960s, and featured a US Peterbilt conventional ('conventional' denoting a car-style hood or bonnet). Since then, we’ve seen a whole range of trucks in 1:25 and 1:24 scales from model companies such as Italeri and Ertl, plus both US and German Revell companies.
